“Silent Hill: Townfall” launches to strong early reviews

IGN and Push Square both praised the survival-horror revival, calling it a fresh, more traditional take on the series after last year's first-person spin-off “Silent Hill f.”

IGN's review said “Silent Hill: Townfall” gives the “long running series a welcome shot in the arm,” while Push Square called it “dated bite-sized horror... in a good way,” likening it to a shortened, first-person take on the “Silent Hill 2” remake set in Scotland.

“Townfall” returns to the more traditional environments, puzzles, and combat the mainline games are known for, a deliberate contrast to last year's more experimental “Silent Hill f.” Two positive reviews from separate outlets on launch day is a strong early sign for a franchise still finding its footing after years of reboots and remakes.

Why it matters. A well-reviewed entry is a big deal for a franchise that's had a mixed run of reboots and remakes.
