Privacy Policy
This explains what Culterix (culterix.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and try to collect as little as we can.
1. What we collect
- Account: your email address and a password (stored only in scrambled form by our sign-in provider; we never see it).
- Profile: the username you choose, and optionally a display name, bio, location, website, profile photo and banner. These are public.
- What you do on Culterix: ratings, likes, watchlist, diary entries, reviews, comments, lists, playlists (public or private), who you follow, and reports you send. Your public activity is visible to others; private playlists are visible only to you.
- Messages you send us through the contact and tip forms.
- Technical data: standard hosting and security logs such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, and page-view counts from Vercel Web Analytics (no cookies, no cross-site tracking).
- On your device only: settings such as theme and text size, recently played songs, recent searches, remembered song matches and short-lived cached catalog results. These are stored in your browser and are not sent to us.
2. What we do not do
We do not sell your data, run advertising trackers, or build advertising profiles.
3. How we use it
To run your account and show your profile, ratings and playlists; to recommend songs and compute taste-match scores from your ratings; to keep the service safe (including automatic checks of text and profile photos for content that is not allowed); to answer your messages; and to understand overall usage.
4. Profile photos
Photos are resized on your device and checked for nudity and sexual content before they are saved. We may also send a photo to an automatic image-safety service (Google Cloud Vision) for this check. A photo that fails is not saved.
5. Sharing, previews and cards
If you share a public profile or playlist link, the page shows its name and a short description so chat apps can preview it. Share pictures are created on your own device. Anyone with a link to a public profile or playlist can see it.
6. Discord status (optional, off by default)
If you turn it on, the title, artist, album and cover of the song you are playing are sent from your browser only to a helper program on your own computer, which passes them to your Discord app. This information is not sent to Culterix servers. What Discord does with it is covered by Discord’s own privacy policy. Turning the feature off clears your status.
7. Services we use
Some of these receive your IP address and technical details when your browser contacts them:
- Supabase: accounts and database; Vercel: hosting and analytics.
- Film and show data and posters from a third-party movie database; music data and artwork from MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive and Apple’s public music search; 30-second previews from Apple.
- YouTube: full songs play in YouTube’s embedded player, which may set its own cookies according to Google’s policies, only when you play a full song. Our server looks up which video matches a song using the YouTube Data API.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr (code libraries, loaded when needed, for example for the photo check).
- Resend: sends our sign-up and account emails.
These providers may process data outside Saudi Arabia.
8. Importing from Spotify
When you import playlists, the files are read in your browser. Only the songs you choose are saved to your own Culterix playlists. We do not connect to your Spotify account.
9. How long we keep data
Account and activity data for as long as your account exists. Messages for as long as needed to reply. Logs for a short period set by our providers.
10. Your choices
- Edit or delete your profile details, reviews, comments, lists and playlists yourself.
- Export your ratings and diary from Settings.
- Ask us to delete your account and all its data by emailing Culterix.Co@gmail.com.
- Clear your device data at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
11. Children
Accounts are for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect account data from younger children. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and database access rules, and rely on our providers’ security. No system is perfectly secure.
13. Changes
We will update this page as Culterix changes and change the date at the top.
